Custom Publications

In digital and print formats, my custom publications have helped healers and innovators promote service lines and boost community engagement and fundraising.

Brain Research Discoveries

I’ve often said my work as chief storyteller at Consonant Custom Media was among the best of my career. Brain Research Discoveries magazine is one publication that substantiates this claim.

My team at Consonant Custom Media created Brain Research Discoveries magazine to help the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute engage and inform vital communities with their stories of patients, physicians, researchers, family caregivers, donors and others. Beginning with its launch in 2012 and with the unwavering support of USF Health leadership, the publication became an indispensable storytelling platform and a model for all publications developed by the USF Health Foundation.

In this issue of Brain Research Discoveries, we helped the Byrd Institute introduce its new Circle of Friends Society (p14-15) and promote the inaugural group’s unique member benefits.

Better!

I’m grateful to the folks at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, now called AdventHealth Zephyrhills, for being our very first client at Consonant Custom Media. The hospital had several new and growing service lines to promote in a very competitive market. Together we launched Better! magazine to promote the Neuroscience Institute, Breast Health Center and Coronary Interventional Program.

With strategic stories about patients and the health professionals behind their services, Better! transformed the hospital’s community engagement efforts while championing AdventHealth’s body-mind-spirit wellness mission.

CAN Chronicles

CAN Community Health, a rapidly growing nonprofit dedicated to the care and continued wellness of people living with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and STDs, needed a strategic approach to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders. They tapped my Consonant Custom Media team for the development of CAN Chronicles. This seasonal journal features in-depth stories about CAN’s people, the services provided at their clinics and their educational and medical research initiatives. These perspectives of care, compassion and hope are critical to an underrepresented community, and have helped CAN Community Health make great strides in community engagement. I’ve also written several feature stories about CAN and its services.

Cancer 360-Plus

Florida Cancer Specialists is the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States. Impressed by our strategic approach and eager to develop a truly one-of-a-kind publication, they chose Consonant Custom Media to develop Cancer 360-Plus magazine to improve their engagement with specialty and primary care physicians referring patients to nearly 100 FCS locations throughout Florida.

Sharing the stories of the people, services and innovations behind Florida Cancer Specialists, Cancer 360-Plus was distributed in print and digital formats. The magazine received rave reviews from clinicians, researchers and other stakeholders, while sponsorship support from oncology innovators like Eli Lilly and Merck helped to offset publication costs.

Journey

The Dattoli Cancer Foundation recognized the need to transform their lackluster newsletter into a vibrant content platform, and called upon Consonant Custom Media because of our deep experience in publication design and immersive storytelling. With Journey, the Foundation shares stories of survival, support and science in the treatment of prostate cancer.

The “new” Journey enabled the Foundation to boost its fundraising by more than double and reinvigorate its research and community education efforts. The Florida Public Relations Association liked Journey as well, recognizing its editorial quality and effectiveness with their coveted Image Award.

Nonprofit Storytelling eBook

Recognizing that many nonprofits fail to tap the enormous potential of the stories behind their missions, my team at Consonant Custom Media produced the eBook 10 Ways to Make Storytelling Work for Your Nonprofit to emphasize the crucial role storytelling can play in nonprofits’ success. Each of the 10 recommendations is accompanied by an action step to help nonprofit advancement professionals share the stories that make emotional connections and transform fundraising.

The CEO’s 401(k) Plan Survival Guide

Global Financial Private Capital and its network of advisors needed a compelling sales tool to promote their new 401(k) services to employers wanting to sponsor 401(k) retirement plans. My team at Consonant Custom Media developed the CEO’s 401(k) Plan survival Guide to urge CEOs to examine their 401(k) or other qualified retirement plans (QRP) and presented ten things small business owners should know about sponsoring a 401(k) plan. The publication stressed the importance of knowing a plan’s true value, understanding fiduciary roles and new Department of Labor regulations, and limiting exposure to QRP-related employee lawsuits.

Qure4u – TCRS Case Study

Following their conversion to Electronic Medical Records, Texas Colon & Rectal Specialists (TCRS) wanted to do more to increase efficiencies and improve the 18-location practice’s performance based on patient-reported outcomes.

Working in collaboration with science writer Randolph Fillmore, my Consonant Custom Media team and I developed this white paper for health-tech startup Qure4u to describe how their Qure4u mobile app helped TCRS optimize patient flow, help patients prepare for procedures and communicate post-procedure or post-surgery issues with a single, patient-facing solution. The result was an effective B2B sales enablement tool.
